The first Millennium Goal is to eradicate extreme poverty and
hunger. Two of the targets under this goal are to achieve full and
productive employment for everyone and to reduce hunger by 50% in
2015. To achieve this goal many national Governments have adopted a
rural development policy, where the primary focus is on rural
economic growth and employment generation, enhanced food
self-sufficiency, increased household incomes and sustainable
natural resources management. This is achieved by programmes that
integrate agricultural production and services, social and physical
infrastructure, gender-balanced community participation and natural
resources management.
Euroconsult Mott MacDonald’s involvement in Rural Development and
Poverty Alleviation programmes therefore focuses on support to
coordination, planning, management, supervision and administration
at the central and local levels. We have ample experience in
tracking donor funds released for Rural Development and Poverty
Alleviation, process management, decentralized support, capacity
building, support to community-based self-help development
processes, and social impact monitoring.
